Ingenious renovation ideas costing virtually nothing which most people spend $100's/$1,000's doing?
I bought a quality $70 shirt for $3 at a charity shop so I suspect there are such simple ways to save in renovation too.
What about constracting a bathroom vanity unit out of bricks (freely obtained)? Sand them down to clean them or paint/plaster them for brightness. Make the sink out of the bricks, or wood, or buy a porcelen/glass sink. Buy a large mirror from a charity shop (about $30). Only the faucet & pipes must be bought, and wooden cabinet doors can be made if needed, with steel knobs and hinges costing only a few dollars.

A wooden sink will slowly turn black and rot. In the old days draining boards in kitchens were wooden and this always happened to them It would be much worse with a wooden sink. A brick sink would have an uneven surface and by very difficult to keep clean. You might be better looking out for items being discarded by people having their bathrooms refitted. No problem with making your own cabinet though.
A big saving we once made was we had a very old ugly and worn sofa. We stripped all the old upholstery off, updated the shape with wood and foam and reupholstered it in new fabric. It was very successful and we used it for years. We sanded the finish off a worn table and refinished it with polyurethane varnish, and again it went on for years looking good.
