Regular Serta/Simmons v. Totally Organic Crib Mattresses?

However, I have been reading articles re fungus and the fire retardants mixing to promote toxic gas that could be a SIDS contributor. If this is true I do have the option of buying an organic mattress. They are quite expensive and if WORTH it I will spend it. However, I am not sure if this is just another way to blow money (there are so many). Now, I plan on using a waterproof mattress pad on top of a water proof mattress so perhaps the worry of fungus developing is not significant.
Anyhow, anyone who wants to weigh in on this, has considered buying organic and didn't or did buy organic just give me some reasons.

The best prevention is not to use crib bumpers, keep baby in tightly fitting pajamas, no blankets, pillows, or stuffed animals, and to make sure the mattress is firm with a tightly fitted sheet. If you're still worried about SIDS, get an Angel Care monitor--there's a sensor pad that goes under the mattress and it's able to detect your child's breathing. If baby doesn't breathe for more than 20 seconds (it's common for people to stop breathing briefly in their sleep for five or ten seconds), an alarm will sound on your unit, so you can either go in and move baby to get him to start breathing again, or to begin CPR. Either way, you've caught it in time to get baby breathing again.
