help with my dog's issues!?
I got my dog about 4 months ago. He is now 7 months old. He's a shepard/rott mix. When we are home, he is so good. never goes potty on the floor, never chews anything besides his toys.
At first, we were keeping him in the cage while we were gone until we were sure we could leave him out. he would tear up any blankets/towels in his cage and pee on himself.
so, we decided to try to leave him the bedroom. i came home to what i thought was a murder scene! i had a glass bowl on the counter for my make up in the vanity room. he had got it down and broke it and cut his paw. there was blood EVERYWHERE. he tore down every set of blinds in the room and tore up the curtains. he chewed ANYTHING he could.
i took him to the vet. turns out he has separation anxiety. has any one here been through this with a pet? how did you help it? i would HATE to give him "doggy prozac" as the vet calls it.. i try to steer away from medicine.

my dog had seperation anxiety. he has really bad authoritis and when we came home one day he had climbed the satirs and was lying in our bath tub whining!! it was so sad! but over time he got better. We also brought in another dog which helped a lot! now he does not do crazy things or end up in closets or anything like that.
another suggestion you can try is giving him a chew toy that has a little compartment for treats. Fill that up with peanut butter and doggy treats and that will keep him preoccupied.
