Best way to get rid of rust in bathroom and make it stay away?

I have some metal fixtures, mostly the shower curtain rod and a vanity shelf that are some kind of silver metal, in my bathroom. I just need to get rid of the rust and make it stay away. Are there any products or techniques I should know about. I tested some wd-40 in an small area and it worked really well at removing the rust, but wasn't sure if this was the best long-term solution.

Got a stop rust best buy...KBS System Sampler in Silver with all the products, brushes & gloves you need for $16.95! It has a cleaner, metal prep & rust sealer. First, Sand the surfaces with 320 grit paper to remove any existing rust. Then clean the metal to remove any soap residue and the wd-40 you put on it. Rinse & Let dry. Then Treat with the Metal prep which will neutralize any rust, gently etch the metal and leave a zinc coating for good rust paint adhesion. Let completely dry. Then Apply RustSeal in 2 thin coats. This paint loves moisture & humidity and is the perfect bathroom rust paint. It cures by drawing moisture out of the metal & air and is even strengthened by repeated exposure to it. It is a great marine paint too. It's formulated to seep deep down into the open metal pores And cure into a permanent rock-hard non-porous protective coating.

TIP for best end result finish: Make sure you apply it in 2 Thin coats (2ml each coat). I like to use foam brushes.Be especially careful on the circular shower rod so there isn't the tendency to drip & pool at the bottom of the rod. Carbon dioxide is released as it cures and by applying it too thick or allowing pooling could cause C02 entrapment which appears as small bubbling in the paint.The paint is also self-leveling so brush marks flow out as if sprayed.
