What is a cheap way to have a guest bed?

We have family come over from time to time and we don't have a guest room in our house, because we have 3 bedrooms, and 2 daughters who have separate rooms right now (they are little ages 1 an 3 so until they are old enough for bunk beds, they have their own room). Anyway, I'm looking for an inexpensive idea on what we could use as a guest bed. Should we just get an air up mattress or futon? Any ideas? Thanks

there are a couple of things that come to mind along w/futons or sleep sofas, as mentioned, the air mattress [twin size].could be stowed under each of your little ones beds you can be kept blown up and pulled out like a trundle bed [essentially, having a bed drawer] and shove it back under when not in use. that way its only blown up once - no need to pull out appliances every time you need to use it.

the other thing requires a rearrangement of furniture - and perhaps the purchasing of a futon which would work really well here:

if possible locate an empty corner in your home.place your futon up against the wall. so if the wall is on the back and right side of the futon - place a bookcase [the longer the bookcase{s} the better] along the leftside open area of the futon - this will create the illusion of having a separate room. and when company is gone it can become a library. for extra privacy, you can get or make a room divider to place in front of the futon when the bed is in use.
