Need help wiring a light bar above bathroom vanity?

I'm not sure how to ground my light bar. It has the ground wire, but my house wiring has a piece of metal with a little hook bent into the end of it that was used to ground the old lights. My old lights had a screw on the plate to hook the piece of metal from the house wiring up to and they had the little metal circle crimped to the end of the ground wire from the light bar. Can I just wrap the ground wire around the piece of metal, and if so, how can I assure it stays there? If there's something else easy I can do, I'll take advice!!

If I am reading the info correctly it sounds like you might be able to use a screw with washers and a nut to attach the old metal ground strip to the new ground wire terminal. Alternatively, if you can twist the metal strip and the new ground wire tightly together then do that and wrapping with electricians tape will probably be adequate.

To clarify what Michael R. misread, note that I said that as an alternative, twist the metal strip (or piece of metal) and the new ground wire tightly together. If a wire nut will fit over them then by all means you should do that. However, I presumed that the piece of metal might be too large for a wire nut to fit over.

Depending on the specific size and shape of the metal piece you might also be able to secure the connection with a crimp on sleeve, splice cap or barrel.

There are also some simple grounding clips available that allow you to clip the ground wire to a metal wiring junction box that you know to be grounded. If the metal strip to which you refer is large enough then you might be able to use a grounding clip to attach the light fixture ground wire to it.

Taping a wire slice connection is not meant to secure the connection because over time the tape will loosen up. Taping the connection is only meant to provide some protection from the sharp ends of the wires in the connection from cutting into the insulation on a hot wire as you push the wires into the box and attach the light fixture.
