Before snuggling down to bed I looked behind my headboard & saw my cat & a newborn kitty!?
I didn't even know she was pregnant. I think she had it this morning because I heard a cry but it sounded like a baby. When I looked behind my headboard this morning it was just her and her brother and I went on about my business. What do I do? Alexandria is the girl and Sasha is our male cat. Will he hurt the baby? It's not his. I got him taken care of but, not her. Will she have more? Do I need to make them a bed? What do I do?
Why didn't you have the female spayed? Please make sure you get it done when she has stopped lactation.
You need to make them a bed. Her neutered brother will most probably be fine with the kitten. If he has been snuggled up with the mum and baby all day then he is going to be fine with them. If he was going to react badly he would have done it by now.
Check the kitten to make sure it is growing well. You may wish to weigh it daily and chart its growth. If it fails to gain weight over a day or two you will have to supplement feeding. After the first couple of weeks increase the handling to as often as you like to enable the socialisation process.
You need to feed your female now with kitten food to give her the extra calories she will need while she is lactating, and make sure she has as much as she can eat and plenty of water.
