how do clean a futon mattress?

I have had my futon mattress in storage for a while now and need it for school.. however i have no idea how to clean it? do i steam clean it or just go out and buy a new one? However the cover doesn't come off so that leaves a dilemma.

If it's really dirty, you might just chuck it and get a new one.

Otherwise you can spot clean it using a little upholstery cleaner (Woolite or similar brand) and a clean rag.

Alternatively you can shampoo the entire thing a section at a time. Just make sure you let it try completely before you use it.

Another option is to take it to a professional cleaner and let them deal with it, but it'll probably cost upwards of $35.
