We had a mattress in our basement comletely soak through from a pipe leaking on it, think it is safe to keep?
It took several days to dry and our basement is kind of cool and damp to start with. My husband wants to move the bed with the mattressses up to our spare room for guests to sleep on. Do you think their might be mold or bacteria on it??? I am worried and he doesn't want to throw it out. What should I tell him?
Most definitely throw it away!
As it is, mattresses are a bredding ground for dust mites, microbes, mold and mildew. Humans shed dead skin cells which feed all those nasty bugs in your mattress so all you are doing is bringing a new family (of bugs) into your guest room who may eventually end up in your other bedrooms. Talk about having uninvited guests! lol
FYI: Because more and more people are more health conscious, mattress shoppers are turning away from memory foam (visco) and spring mattresses and buying "all latex" mattresses which if made by "100% Natural Latex" are naturally anti-microbial, hypoallergenic, and resistant to dust mites, mold and mildew.
So, yes get rid of that mattress and if your husband still wants to keep it around, have him sleep on it for a night! :p
